There is the ongoing debate as to whether the increasingly television advertisements bring more benefits or drawbacks to people's life. As for me, I believe this has, overall, both positive significance and bad influence.

Let us consider some of the points that may be made in defence of TV advertising. Firstly, advertisements provide information, which is essential to the modern economy development because it brings resources owners into contact with the demanders. Indeed, advertisements are the most efficient means of such communication and help to maintain the price of consumer goods reasonable. Secondly, the advertising industry itself is a significant source of employment. Thirdly, some advertisements are charming and elaborate, they can be treated as art works.

Admittedly, however, television advertising presents a number of objectionable features. It is obvious that they often interrupt the programs, distract our attention and may spoil our enjoyment or learning all of these are time-consumed. Then there is a question of the message that the advertisements convey. They aim to arouse our desires to buy new products rather than simply give us information about products that we actually need. At a deeper level, advertisements often present us with a fantasy world to boost their profits thus they may create wasteful consumption.

On balance, it seems that given the reality of the modern economy, we cannot completely eradicate television advertising. But at least we can avoid being overly controlled by advertisements by evaluating their messages and effects.
